Her Advocacy
Through her life’s journey, Ochan Simelane has observed that being a young woman in South Africa has over time become extremely frightening, often resulting in women having to fight harder for financial freedom, success and eradication of poverty.
She started her Social Entrepreneurship in 2014 with the project called Giving is Always in Style at Amazing Grace Center for Children.
Her advocacy involves raising awareness on Gender Based Violence, Gender Equality and Femicide, as well as Women Economic Empowerment initiatives. She uses esteemed platforms to raise worldwide awareness on these social issues, and more.
Through the WIN Foundation, of which Simelane-Ochan is the spokesperson and fundraiser of, she has recently Launched the Glow Up! Make a Difference with NaBo’Ngwane Naturals Skincare Products campaign, a campaign dedicated to instill confidence in women and girls globally that are recovering and healing from the trauma stemming from gender-based violence. Furthermore, the initiatives aim to offer Award-winning programs for emotional empowerment for women around the world.
Promoting equal access to sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), and bodily autonomy is also at the heart of what Lucia is involved in. This initiative includes hygiene education and donating menstrual and essential hygiene packs for boys, girls and women crisis centers. While Lucia’s focus is geared towards women and girls, she does believe in supporting and equipping the boy child to be the model examples in society.
“Empowering and supporting our men and boys will make them feel considered and included. We need to take them along on the journey and involve them in initiatives that raise awareness about what women and girls face (and vice versa). These interactions are extremely important, and my hope is that they ultimately reduce and eventually completely eliminate the cases of gender-based violence, and create a society where we co-exist more harmoniously with a better understanding and tolerance of each other.”, Lucia said.
A typical survivor pack includes soap, feminine products, body lotion, deodorant, washcloth, toothbrush and toothpaste.
“I feel that over the years, the world has become extremely progressive in so many ways. One of those ways should be a strong focus on keeping less privileged girls and boys around the world in school. The Youth are our future, and it is unacceptable that they should be held back from getting educated due a lack of basic resources for their menstruation and overall basic hygiene.» She continues to add that, “Periods Don’t Pause for Pandemics.»
She is committed to making a change that allows for exercising the values enshrined in the South African constitution.
Winning the World Prestigious Curve title is a dream come true for this dazzling dimpled darling. Since she was a young girl, Lucia has always dreamt of representing her country, and continent on a Global platform.
It has made her realise that life does not define people, people have the ability to define life. “People need to show up, take up space, and never doubt our capabilities. Our dreams are valid no matter how great the dream is.”, she says.
She is honored to be the newly crowned Mrs Curve Globe ‘23, and looks forward to touching lives and inspiring more women to embrace their femininity and follow their dreams. She dreams of a world where women choose themselves more often and embrace their authentic selves.
As part of her closing remarks, Lucia reminds everyone to not ever dim their light for anyone. She encourages everyone to fully embrace who they are and never neglect themselves. “Self love and care are extremely crucial, especially during the high pressures that come with today’s society. Love yourself first so that you can love others genuinely. As a principle, we should ensure that we fill up our own cup first so that we can fill those of others. To the women and girls with the curves, love and embrace your bodies. My curves make me who I AM, and your beautiful, unique bodies, make you, YOU.” she ends off.
Urban dictionary defines a “feminine Boss” as “THE woman who is in control. People see her and instantly feel the need to respect her and do. Runs the show, is cool, and collected and gets the job done. Confident, never looks down. Demands respect and gets it.”
A feminine Boss is someone who has learned to embraces her Devine feminine power , understands who she is and where she’s going. gracefully allowing her light to shine brighter .
Shes who women aspire to be, who has her life together, and is the embodiment of wellness , Selflove , self-care, and career, has it all together and is living her best life.
She is mostly about the focus on the self; self-care, self-actualization instead of then changing herself for others and she has created healthy boundaries within herself and around herself.
She seeks to evolve into the best form of herself and she enthusiastically embrace new opportunities and lift others up. Support and empower other females.
She pays herself a compliment, ask for help, but also speaks her mind .
Always remember not to ever dim your light just to fit in , always shine bright , embrace who you are and be the butterfly you are meant to. Women helping women is the most powerful way to continue the feminine boss power movement.
